A Mardan police officer allegedly shot dead a suspect in police custody at the office of the SP Investigation in Mardan, reportedly to avenge the killing of his brother.

According to police sources, the incident took place at the SP Investigation Office located within the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station, where a suspect, identified as Mishal, was being held in connection with a murder case registered under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The accused police officer, identified as Imran, son of Akram Khan and a resident of Chamtar, is posted with the Mardan Traffic Police. He allegedly opened fire on Mishal with a pistol, killing him on the spot.

Police personnel present at the scene immediately arrested Imran and placed him in custody. The body of the deceased was shifted to a hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police sources said Mishal was allegedly nominated in the murder case of Imran’s brother, and the officer reportedly killed him in retaliation for his brother’s death.

Following the incident, Mardan District Police Officer Masood Ahmed Bangash suspended three police personnel for alleged negligence in connection with the incident.

Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway.
