MARDAN: The first-ever case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) has been registered in Mardan against an individual accused of spreading negative propaganda on social media about the Press Club and its members.
The case was filed at City Police Station by the President and General Secretary of the Mardan Press Club, who alleged that a citizen, identified as Zahid, had been using abusive language against them online.
According to details, Zahid had been allegedly running a smear campaign against the Mardan Press Club and its members for several years through multiple social media accounts. In response, the club’s leadership submitted a written complaint to DPO Mardan Zahoor Babar Afridi, providing evidence to support their claims.

Upon receiving the complaint, the DPO directed SP City Shafi-ur-Rehman to initiate legal proceedings. Subsequently, SHO City Abdul Salam Khan registered the district's first-ever PECA case against the accused.
The City Police have formally registered the FIR, marking the first PECA-related case filed by the Press Club in Mardan. The police have begun further investigations into the matter.
