A major corruption scandal has surfaced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa involving a solar electrification project for mosques in Mardan.
According to sources, a sum of Rs260 million was allocated for the project, which abruptly ended as soon as it began. The contractor, who received an advance payment, has reportedly disappeared with the funds.
Sources reveal that the payment was made during the previous government’s tenure, and the matter has now been taken up by the Public Accounts Committee.
The committee has ordered either immediate initiation of the project or the recovery of the millions within one month.
In case of non-compliance, the committee has decided to proceed with action against the TMO (Tehsil Municipal Officer) and the contractor through the Anti-Corruption Department.
Secretary Local Government confirmed that evidence indicates the TMO’s involvement, and further investigations are currently underway.
