PESHAWAR: Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda), Tribal elders and member national assembly have visited Mommand dam site to examine the construction work on the link road on Thursday.
Chairman WAPDA, lieutenant general Muzamil Hussain and MNA Sajid Khan were leading the delegation and visited the project area. They observed the construction work on 15.5-kilometre link road being constructed from Munda Headworks to the Dam site.
The road is being constructed to transport heavy construction machinery to the dam site. The chairman WAPDA while talking to media persons said that during construction work, some 6000 jobs opportunities will be created.
He said that besides providing the compensation amount to tribal people on time, the government is also working on providing basic facilities like education, Health and water facilities near the dam site. The WAPDA chairman said that it will be helpful in maintaining the trust of people on government efforts. He added that for this purpose, the government has set aside Rs 4.6 billion.
The WAPDA Chief added that the dam will not only bring prosperity to the tribal region but will help the country improve its economy. It will preserve a high amount of water that will also be used for irrigation purpose in Charsadda, Mohmand and other nearby districts. He added that the dam will be completed in 5 years, 8 months.
Prime Minister Imran Khan along with former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar has performed ground-breaking of Mohmand Dam in Mohmand tribal district. The dam is being built on the Swat River and it will be completed at a cost of Rs183 billion by 2024. It will have the capacity to store 1.2 million acre-feet of water. It is expected to generate 800MW electricity upon completion. It will also solve the problem of water scarcity in Mohmand district besides saving Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera districts from floods.
