Under the federal government’s scheme to provide Rs100 per litre relief on petrol, owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi rickshaws and vehicles up to 800cc will receive a subsidy.

Under the package announced by the government, a monthly limit of 20 litres of petrol has been set for motorcycles and three-wheelers, while owners of vehicles up to 800cc will get a Rs100 per litre discount on up to 30 litres of petrol per month.

According to Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, motorcycle owners will be able to receive the subsidy once a week, while owners of small cars can avail it once every 10 days. One token will be issued for 5 litres of petrol for motorcycles and 10 litres for cars.

Shaza Fatima Khawaja said motorcycles up to 15 years old and vehicles up to 20 years old will also be eligible for the scheme.

According to the government, citizens will have to register by sending an SMS from their mobile number to 9771. The message must include “REG”, the CNIC number, vehicle or motorcycle registration number, the first letter of the province’s name, and the registration date.

The mobile number, SIM and CNIC must all be registered in the same person’s name.

After completing registration, citizens will have to send “TOK” to 9771 before purchasing petrol to receive a token. The token can then be shown at the relevant petrol station to obtain petrol at the discounted rate.

According to Information Minister Atta Tarar, the scheme aims to provide relief to low-income and deserving citizens, particularly those who use motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws.

The government said the facility will be available in Islamabad from midnight between September 14 and 15, and across the country, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, from midnight on September 16.
