BUNER: A newly-wed couple has been killed in the name of honour in Buner.
Police said bodies of the couple were found hanging in a tobacco kiln in Shalbandi Darra area of Buner on Friday night. The slain boy has been identified as Saleem, while the girl has been identified as Nama Bibi. The boy was 22 years old, while his wife was 18 years old and both belonged to Shalbandi village.
Police said the couple entered marriage according to their own will without the permission of their parents recently and both had escaped after marriage. The bodies of the husband and wife were found in the village on Friday night.
Police have filed a case against unknown culprits and initiated investigation.
Incidents of honour killings are reported from time to time from different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On August 16, a young man was murdered allegedly over a so-called honour issue in Mamakhel area in Peshawar within the jurisdiction of Pishtakhara Police station.
Police said they were informed about the presence of a bullet-riddled body on Inqilab Road, near irrigation canal. Police reached the crime spot and shifted the dead body to the hospital for post mortem. The victim was identified as Ikramullah, a resident of Pishtakhara. His brother Kiramatullah registered a case with the police accusing his neighbours of his brother’s murder on the issue of ‘honour’.
On August 05, two people, including a woman, were killed in the name of honour in Martung tehsil of Shangla district.
Police arrested two brothers accused of the double murder. Police said the accused brothers, Shah Jehan and Muhammad Alam, killed their sister-in-law and a person after accusing them of having illicit relations.
On June 27, a newly-wed couple was killed in the name of honour in Chamkani area of Peshawar.
According to police, the incident happened in Choba Gujar area of Chamkani where 25-year-old Habibullah had entered marriage with 21-year-old Uzma on June 20. The couple was living in a rented house in Choba Gujar area. The father of the girl allegedly shot dead his daughter and son-in-law in the name of honour.
