At least nine people, including six orphaned children, lost their lives in two separate house collapse incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said on Tuesday.

In Shangla's Alpuri tehsil, the roof of a mud house suddenly collapsed during the night, trapping several children under the debris. According to police, six orphaned children were killed on the spot while another girl sustained injuries and was shifted for medical treatment.

The deceased were identified as Nazira, Samira, Rizwan, Nayab, Haya Noor and Umaira Bibi, aged between five and 14 years. Police said their father, Jahan Bashar, had died some time ago, leaving the children orphaned. The victims included five girls and one boy.

In a separate incident in Sadda area of Lower Kurram tehsil, a two-storey mud house collapsed, burying family members under the rubble. Rescue officials said two women and a child were killed in the incident.

Rescue teams recovered the bodies from the debris and shifted them to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Sadda. Officials added that a large portion of the household belongings remained trapped under the rubble.

Both incidents have left the affected communities in mourning and raised concerns over the safety of mud structures in vulnerable areas of the province.
