PESHAWAR: After Peshawar, now 10 employees of a school in Nowhsera have been diagnosed with coronavirus.

According to information shared by the district health department, eight teachers and two class-IV employees of Government Higher Secondary School Rashakai in Nowshera have been diagnosed with coronavirus.

On the recommendations of the district health officer and deputy commissioner, the district education officer has sent the infected teachers and other staff members on leave of two weeks so that they could quarantine themselves. The Education Department said academic activities in Nowshera are continuing by observing the standard operating procedures (SOPs) strictly.

Peshawar schoolteachers

A day earlier, seven teachers of a government school in Peshawar were diagnosed with coronavirus.

According to information made available through the KP Elementary and Secondary Education Department (ESED), the affected teachers belong to the Government Higher Secondary School No. 1 Peshawar Cantt. The tests of the teachers were conducted last week and results were received on Tuesday.

An official of the ESED said none of the affected teachers have met any student of the school. He said the tests of all the affected teachers will be taken again before declaring them fit for school duty. He said the Health Department has already been informed about coronavirus tests of the teachers and students on random basis.

22 educational institutions shut over SOPs violation

The Education Department has issued SOPs for reopening of the schools. However, these SOPs were not followed in letter and spirit as educational institutions reopened on September 15.

On Thursday, 22 educational institutions in Pakistan were closed over violation of coronavirus SOPs.

The closed educational institutions include 16 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, one from Islamabad and five from Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

In Sindh, the coronavirus test of eight staffers in two colleges in Matiari district came back as positive after which both the colleges were closed. Officials have asked parents to immediately consult doctors and inform the health department if their children show symptoms of coronavirus.

Although, coronavirus is on its way out in Pakistan, but still new cases are being reported on daily basis. Keeping in view the potential of the virus to strike back, the Pakistan government has not declared complete victory against it.
