PESHAWAR, May 20: A non-government organisation, ACTED, has announced to provide more than 30 million rupees grant to improve 50 schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The announcement was made by Mr Saeed Muhammad Aftab, in charge of the ACTED in Pakistan, while addressing a ceremony regarding elementary and secondary education. The ceremony was presided by Provincial Education Minister, Mr Muhammad Atif.

The provincial minister said on the occasion that the grant would be utilised to provide clean drinking water, set up boundary walls and latrines at 50 schools in Peshawar, Kohat and Nowshera districts.

The provincial government has launched the Tameer-e-School (school construction) scheme since 30 April and appealed to philanthropists and welfare organisations to extend assistance in order to ensure facilities at 13000 state-run schools.

Sources in the provincial government say the scheme has received donations worth 38 million rupees so far.
