
MIRANSHAH, September 6: The Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has said Pakistan came into existence because of the sacrifices of the tribal people.
Addressing a ceremony in connection with the 49th Defence Day of Pakistan in North Waziristan tribal region on 6 September, the army chief said peace would be restored in Waziristan region with the cooperation of the local tribesmen.
He said that a number of areas had been cleared during the Operation Zarb-e-Azb. General Sharif also appreciated the army men for the ongoing operation in North Waziristan.
Later, he visited the relief camp set up for the displaced people of North Waziristan in Bakkakhel area of Bannu and listened to their problems.
The Defence Day is observed in memory of the Pakistan Army soldiers who died in the Pakistan-India war of 1965.
In his message on Defence Day, Pakistan’s President Mr Mamnoon Hussain paid tribute to the martyrs for sacrificing their lives to protect the country’s sovereignty.
The Prime Minister, Mr Nawaz Sharif, also released a statement on the day, expressing solidarity with the Pakistan Army. The primer said the democratic government would fulfill all needs of the army.
