BARA, October 17: Security forces have launched the “Operation Khyber 1” against militants in Khyber Agency and claimed to have killed 10 suspected militants.
Security forces claimed to have started their first assault on militants in the remote area of Akakhel with the collaboration of Frontier Corps (FC) and political administration.
The Jamrud tehsildar, Mr Irshad Khan Safi, said that with the launch of the operation, residents of the region have started moving to safer places and about 30 families from Lala Kando have shifted to Peshawar, Jamrud, Hangu and other areas so far.
He added that a relief camp had also been setup in Hangu where the displaced families are being registered. He said that the displaced families were being provided with food items and medicines and their children being administered polio vaccines.
Authorities, elders hold jirga
Meanwhile, a jirga attended by elders of eight Afridi sub-tribes discussed the Khyber-1 Operation in Khyber Agency.
Besides others, Member National Assembly (MNA) Nasir Khan Afridi, Senator Haji Khan, PTI leader Iqbal Afridi, Malik Waris Khan Afridi and Shah Faisal Khan were present on the gathering.
Some elders supported the operation and the army should purge the agency of militants. However, some of the tribal elders said the Operation Khyber-1 had been launched Tirah Valley without taking them into confidence.
