BARA, June 10: Security forces claim to have killed 15 militants as jet fighters shelled areas in Tirah valley at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Khyber Agency.
The Inter-Service Public Relations, an organisation that interacts with media on behalf of the armed forces, says the forces shelled nine militant hideouts at the border with Afghanistan, including Mehraban Kalay, Speeny Khaorey and Seekh Kot areas, killing 15 militants and destroying heavy arms.
Local sources say the shelling also caused collateral damage and harmed the local population as well.
Previously the Khyber Agency was shelled in April when 37 people were killed. The region is believed to be home to several militant factions, particularly the Lashkar-i-Islam, led by warlord Mangal Bagh, and foreign fighters.
