The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued an alert for flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding in various districts of the province due to heavy rainfall.

According to the PDMA, heavy rains are expected from today until Friday, increasing the risk of landslides and flash floods in vulnerable areas. Urban flooding is also likely in Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, and Swabi. Strong winds and lightning may damage weak structures, solar panels, electricity poles, and billboards.

The authority said that on Friday, most parts of Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Buner, Bajaur, Upper and Lower Kohistan, Kolai-Palas, Battagram, Torghar, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Swabi, Mohmand, Charsadda, and Nowshera are expected to receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast in several areas.

Similarly, Upper and Lower Chitral, Peshawar, Khyber, Kohat, Kurram, Orakzai, Hangu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan are also likely to experience rain with strong winds and thunderstorms, with heavy rainfall expected at isolated locations.

During the last 24 hours, Mohmand Dam received the highest rainfall at 96 mm, followed by Landi Kotal (65 mm), Takht Bhai (38 mm), Peshawar City (21 mm), Peshawar Airport (20 mm), Saidu Sharif (15 mm), Cherat (13 mm), Balakot (10 mm), Kakul (2 mm), and Dera Ismail Khan Airport (1 mm), while Timergara recorded only a trace of rainfall.

The PDMA also reported that the highest temperature recorded in the province on Thursday was 39°C at Dera Ismail Khan Airport.

The authority has advised residents to take precautionary measures, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from seasonal streams and low-lying areas. In case of any emergency, citizens can contact the PDMA helpline at 1700.
