BANNU, April 26: Local people blocked the main DI Khan road in protest against disconnection of an electricity supply line to the Bannu Headquarters Hospital.

The demonstrators said the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) had cut off a power supply line two days ago and that the one line being used by the hospital was subjected to excessive loadshedding.

They said the patients and staff of the hospital were facing a host of problems due to loadshedding.

A protester told TNN, “We want to know why the line was disconnected as it is a hospital and excessive loadshedding may claim the lives of patients.”

A doctor told TNN, “Patients and their attendants demand fulfilment of basic needs like water and electricity supply. The line, which has been cut off recently, was supplying enough electricity to the hospital.”

However, the executive engineer of Bannu area told TNN that the electricity line was meant for the army installations only. He added that they had cut off the line as some residents of the area were stealing electricity through it.
