MALAKAND, June 28: People of Banda village in Dargai tehsil of Malakand Agency have protested establishment of steel mills in the area.
At a rally in Meherdi Chowk on 27 June, the demonstrators said the local residents were suffering from infectious diseases of chest because of untreated poisonous gases of the mills.
“Protest is our right because the factory is causing diseases among local population,” said one of the local residents.
“It is harming our environment. We even approached the environmental and industrial authorities, but our demands were ignored,” said another resident.
Two months ago, 10 people died and several fell unconscious when they came into contact with the toxic waste of a sugar mill in Dera Ismail Khan district.
