MINGORA, September 20: The encroachments, which had been washed by flooded River Swat in 2010, are being reconstructed.
Local residents say the 2010 floods had washed away hotels and rest houses along the river in Swat, while people had suffered more losses because the illegally constructed buildings had blocked floodwater.
Locals say that district administration must take action against the encroachments on the banks of the river.
“People have started activities along the river. The government needs to do planning and identify the commercial and residential areas. The government must ban construction within 100 feet area from the river,” stated a resident.
Deputy Commissioner of Swat, Mr Mehmoodul Hassan, told TNN that they had issued notices to people involved in encroachments but local residents said they had not received any such notices.
