A local court has sentenced a trader for three years behind bar for giving a dishonored cheque of Rs 66.8 million to a Sikh businessman.

The court of judicial magistrate Peshawar Muhammad Shoaib announced the verdict of dishonored cheque to Sikh trade by his Muslim partner. The court sentenced the trader three years behind bars and also fined him Rs 20,000.

Khalid Khan Mohmand Advocate appeared on behalf of plaintiff Govidnar Singh. The respondent Bilal Iqbal was accused of giving a cheque of Rs 66.8 million which was later dishonored at the bank. Gulfat Hussain Shaheed police station had registered an FIR to this effect on January 4, 2022.

Mr Singh’s counsel told the court that his client has been robbed by his business partner and compounded his financial problems by giving him a dishonored cheque.

The counsel said that the accused was not worthy of any leniency.

Following the arguments, the court handed over three years in prison and Rs 20,000 fine to the accused.
