PESHAWAR: Workers and local leadership of Pakistan People Party (PPP) on Wednesday held protests across the province against the arrest of former President Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur in fake accounts case.
The PPP workers gathered outside the Charsadda press club chanting slogans against the government accusing it of political victimization. They termed the arrest of Zardari and Hamza Shahbaz Sharif as an attempt to weaken Bilal Bhutto Zardari in his efforts for a ‘real democracy’ to the country.
The protesters alleged that the ‘selected’ prime minister has brought the country on the brink of collapse due to his ‘flawed’ policies. They alleged that all the federal ministers are involved in corrupt practices therefore; instead of political victimization action should be taken against setting ministers. The protestors warned that their protestors will continue till the release of Asif Ali Zardari.
Another protestor was held in Dir Upper where hundreds of PPP workers gathered at Dir Chowk to express solidarity with Zardari. They asked the government to release Zardari at once and focus to bring out the country from the current economic vows.
They were led by former federal minister Najam Ul Din Khan, the district president of PPP Arifullah Khan and other local leaders of the party. They chanted slogans against the government and demanded the release of the former president.
The protestors alleged that the arrests have been made in order to divert the public attention from its failure to run the country. Najm Ul Din Khan said that on the call of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, they are ready to hold countrywide protests.
Another protest was held in Lakki Marwat where hundreds of protestors demanded the government to release Zardari without further delay. The PPP Laki Marwat district president Iqbal Hussain while addressing the protestors said that the Bhutto family has offered high sacrifices for the country. He said that they are ready to hold protests throughout the country on the direction of Party Chief.
