President Zardari Approves 180-Day Sentence Reduction for Eligible Prisoners

The decision applies to inmates who have served at least one-third of their sentence, including men over 65 years old and women over 60.

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a 180-day sentence reduction for certain convicted prisoners under Article 45 of the Constitution. The decision applies to inmates who have served at least one-third of their sentence, including men over 65 years old and women over 60.

The sentence reduction will also benefit female prisoners incarcerated with their children and individuals under 18, provided they have completed one-third of their sentence. However, the relief will not extend to those convicted of serious crimes.

Prisoners sentenced for murder, espionage, anti-state activities, rape, theft, robbery, kidnapping, terrorism, financial crimes, embezzlement of public funds, offenses under the Foreigners Act 1946, and convictions under the Drug Control Act 2022 are excluded from this concession.
