Pakistan Tehrik Insaf (PTI) chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan was wounded in an assassination bid in Gujranwala during his Haqeeqi Azadi March on Thursday evening.
The firing which took place in All Hoo Chowk of Wazirabad left a party worker dead while some of the party leaders including Senator Faisal Javed Khan were also wounded.
Media reports said that PTI chief sustained bullet injuries in his right leg while Umar Dar, Faisal Javed, Ahmed Chatha were also among the injured.
Former premier was shifted to bulletproof vehicle after the firing incident in strict security and shifted to hospital.
On the other hand, police said that the firing incident took place at one of the party’s camp at All Hoo Chowk to welcome Mr Khan’e entourage. The firing caused panic among the marchers. Police personnel arrested two suspects from the scene and shifted them to undisclosed location.
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi condemned the incident. He said that by the grace of God, Mr Khan was safe.
