PESHAWAR, November 10: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chief Mr Imran Khan has withdrawn his demand of immediate resignation of the prime minister and said he can remain in the office while investigation is conducted into the rigging of the 2013 elections.
Addressing a party rally in Rahimyar Khan, Punjab province, Mr Khan demanded the government form a commission under the Supreme Court, comprising the personnel of Military Intelligence and Inter-Services Intelligence, to probe reports of rigging.
He said the commission should complete the investigation of rigging within 4 to 6 months, during which his sit-in would also continue and the prime minister can also stay in the office, instead of resigning.
He said that if rigging was proved in the elections, the prime minister should announce re-elections. He added that he would himself end the protest sit-in of his party if rigging was not proved.
Mr Khan demanded formation of the commission by 30 November and warned that he might announce some “strict measures” for their protest campaign in case the commission was not set up.
The PTI has been protesting in the country since 14 August, demanding probe into alleged rigging in the 2013 general elections and re-elections in the country.
