WANA: The district administration of South Waziristan tribal district has imposed Section 144 over law and order concerns.

The district administration says rallies, public gatherings and provocative speeches have been banned in South Waziristan under Section 144. According to a statement issued by the administration, display of arms and aerial firing has also been banned. The assembly of five or more people and use on tinted glasses in vehicles will not be allowed. The statement said strict action will be taken against the violators of Section 144.

No reasons have been given for imposition of Section 144 in South Waziristan ahead of Eid. However, it is understood that it might have been imposed to keep the situation under check after the unfortunate incident in North Waziristan where some casualties occurred when the protest by the Pakhtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) activists turned violent two days ago.

The situation was tense in North Waziristan after the incident and curfew was also imposed.

Elections in tribal districts are scheduled to be held on July 2. However, the restrictions imposed in Waziristan have perturbed the elections candidates who say their election campaign will be severely affected. The election candidates are of the view that imposition of Section 144 before the polls will impede their campaigns and preparations.

Policeman kills colleague in Kohat

A policeman killed his colleague and injured another in Kohat on Monday.

The policeman was arrested after the incident.

Meanwhile, police arrested four suspects allegedly involved in the murder of a six-year-old boy after alleged sexual abuse in Haripur.

Police said that Habibur Rehman, a resident of Serai Saleh area, filed a report on May 24 that his six-year-old son Haseebullah has gone missing from his home under mysterious circumstances. Search for the child was initiated and the body of the child was recovered in a deserted place near the boy’s residence on Saturday.

The body bore torture marks and the clothes of the boy were also missing which gave credence to suspicion that the boy was subjected to sexual abuse before his murder.
