JAMRUD, November 14: The political authorities of Khyber Agency have resumed the transmissions of Radio Khyber that had been ceased due to shortage of funds about 18 months ago.
The political authorities have opened the Radio Khyber with their own funds this time. The transmissions would be on-air from 8am to 11am and from 1pm to 4pm.
Radio Khyber was launched in May 2006 and various informative and entertainment programmes used to be on-aired from there. Listeners used to take interest in the news and in the programmes. “Tirahwaal Mama” and “Hujra”, which was presented by the then station manager Mr Tayyab Afridi, were much liked by public.
The local residents have lauded the re-opening of the radio station.
“The Radio Khyber is our family channel. Our elders and youngsters have been waiting for the re-opening of the radio station’s transmissions since a long time. It is as if some lost valuables have been found,” stated an elder of the area.
Meanwhile, Mr Syed Nazir Afridi, the former station manager of the radio, commended the decision of political administration and said the radio stations of Razmak and Miranshah that had been closed due to shortage of funds should also be re-opened as soon as possible.
These radio stations, set up in the year 2004 and their transmissions were suspended last year. The employees of the radio stations have also forwarded the case to Peshawar High Court (PHC).
