Time, like a swift horse, gallops forward at its own steady pace, constantly reshaping our surroundings. Days turn into nights, winters melt into summers, and autumns give way to springs. With each seasonal transition, the human body faces its own set of challenges.

The current shift between winter and summer brings an unusual imbalance. The sun’s intensity during the day creates discomfort and restlessness, while the cool, humid nights invite colds, flu, and other ailments. Dressing becomes a dilemma—warm clothes feel suffocating, while lighter fabrics fail to provide comfort. Rich foods irritate, yet lighter meals seem insufficient. This environmental shift affects nearly everyone, leaving no escape from its consequences.

One of the most troubling ailments during this time is stomach pain, a condition that can strike anyone at any time. Over the past few weeks, there has been a sharp rise in cases, with stomach-related illnesses spreading like an epidemic. The pain can be localized or spread across the entire abdomen, often impacting major organs like the liver, intestines, and lungs. While some cases resolve on their own, others require medical intervention.

These days, nearly every third person in a household—be it a child or an adult—suffers from some form of digestive distress. Constipation, bloating, cramps, and diarrhea have become widespread, yet many people dismiss these symptoms and resort to home remedies rather than seeking medical advice.

To understand the root causes and remedies, I recently spoke with Dr. Aslam Khan Mohmand, a senior physician and Chief Medical Officer. He pointed out that sudden weather changes are a major culprit behind these rising stomach issues. Unseasonal rain, prolonged dry spells, and shifting air patterns all contribute to digestive problems.

Another significant factor, according to Dr. Mohmand, is food adulteration. He described it as a case of “inviting trouble upon ourselves,” emphasizing how people unknowingly harm their health. He also noted that persistent stomach pain might indicate poor digestion, high-stress levels, or late-night eating habits.

Prevention and Remedies

To combat digestive issues, Dr. Mohmand suggested:

  • Eating oatmeal to soothe the stomach in case of pain or bloating.
  • Avoiding processed foods, fatty meals, and spicy dishes, opting for fresh, home-cooked meals instead.
  • Maintaining a balanced intake of fruits and legumes, as excess consumption can also lead to bloating.
  • Sticking to regular mealtimes and never skipping meals to maintain digestive health.
  • Avoiding carbonated drinks and alcohol, and drinking plenty of water to prevent constipation.
  • Eating slowly and mindfully to aid digestion.
  • Increasing fiber intake through vegetables but adjusting if excessive greens cause discomfort.

Most importantly, he stressed that stomach pain should never be ignored. If symptoms persist, consulting a doctor is essential to ensure the correct diagnosis and treatment.

As seasons change, so do our bodies’ needs. By being mindful of our diet and lifestyle, we can navigate these transitions with ease and keep our digestive health in check.
