PESHAWAR, May 20: Secretaries of the union councils across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have gone on strike and started boycotting duties to press the government to announce a service structure for them and to raise their pay scales.
A secretary is a civil servant appointed by the government. The secretary usually takes care of a union council office and is responsible for issuing birth and death certificates and maintaining official records.
Many people faced difficulties because they could not get wedding and birth certificates and other documents due to the boycott of secretaries.
A secretary of a union council in Dargai tehsil of Malakand Agency told TNN, “We also have children, we also like to live a peaceful life after retirement. We demand basic scale-12 for the secretary and the scale should be raised to 14 on completion of 10 years and BS-16 after 20 years.”
Last week the provincial government approved scale up-gradation for 83,000 clerks.
