SWAT, November 28 : The security forces have decided to hand over military check posts in Swat district to police.
Decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the military and police officers here yesterday. The meeting decided that in the first phase seven check posts in Mingora city and its surroundings manned by the military will be handed over to police next month. All the remaining check posts in the district will be handed over to police in the next phase.
About 200 check posts have been manned by the military personnel for last five years in Swat after the military operation.
The local population has appreciated the new arrangement and said that now it is time for police to fulfil its responsibility and ensure security in the area.
“This step will facilitate the local population as the police personnel hail from the same area and recognise people better than the army personnel. We had difficulty in communicating with the army personnel. We also appreciate the army for establishing peace in the area. Long Live Pakistan Army!” a local resident said.
“It proves that peace has been established in the area. Now police should also ensure peaceful environment,” another resident said.
