MARDAN, December 1: A seminar titled “Stop Violence Against Women” was held in Mardan district.
Lawyers, traders, journalists, students, members from welfare organisations and women in large numbers attended the event.
In the address, the organisers said that women still faced violence in society.
On the occasion, Gandhara Art Council Takhtbai Chairman Mr Amjad Khan Mohmand contributed to a stage drama that depicted violence against women in the fields of education, their due rights, domestic violence and unfair customs and traditions that prevail in our society.
Ms Mehnaz, a social worker, also shared her views in the seminar and termed the seminar to be a great and effective initiative for raising awareness regarding women’s rights and their empowerment.
“The rights of women will be recognised if we convey to our family members the message that we have got here in seminar. Besides that, men do have rights as well; we need to raise awareness among the masses. The petty issues that usually arise in our homes can also be countered this way.”
