PESHAWAR, July 23: The Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital has received donation worth more than 80 million rupees in a single day.

Founder of the hospital and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf chairman, Mr Imran Khan, visited Peshawar for fund raising on 22 July and held a gathering in which a woman donated her home worth 40 million rupees for construction of the hospital.

On the occasion, Mr Khan said the hospital’s construction was too fast and that hopefully it would start treating cancer patients in October next year.

“The Shaukat Khanum Hospital will start functioning in October 2015 and would treat up 70% patients would be treated free of cost. I claim that it will be the best hospital of Pakistan,” he added.

Earlier, Mr Khan has laid the foundation of the hospital in the name of his mother Ms Shaukat Khanum in Lahore. Ms Khanum had died of cancer. For a branch of the same hospital, the Awami National Party had donated 50 kanals land in Peshawar when the party was ruling the province in the previous government.
