Kurram Firing

SADDA, July 9: Six people have been killed and eight others injured as two groups exchanged fire over a land dispute in Kurram Agency.

Administration officials say the incident took place in Gido village in Parachinar where the families of Mr Sawab Khan and Mr Gulla Jan of Mengal tribe traded fire. As a result, three people from each group died while eight others were injured.

The injured were taken to the Parachinar hospital. After the incident, the administration arrested eight members of Mengal tribe under the Collective Responsibility clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation.

The Frontier Crimes Regulation is a British-era law applicable to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) in Pakistan. The Collective Responsibility clause allows the tribal authorities to punish a whole tribe as a result of the behaviour or crime of one or more other individuals.
