LOWER KURRAM: Six members of the same family were injured after an alleged mortar shell struck a house in the Surah Ghorgha area of Lower Kurram, police said.

The injured were initially shifted by local residents to Basic Health Unit (BHU) Mandori for medical treatment. According to information from the health facility, the injured included four women, a girl and a man.

They were identified as Ayaz, his wife Gul Pariza, his mother Gul Meena, his sister-in-law Niaz Meena, and his nieces Yasra and Sana.

Local elder Malik Haji Muhammad Karim said the absence of rescue and emergency services in the remote area caused serious difficulties in transporting the injured to hospital. Residents used their own vehicles to take the victims to the BHU.

Later, an ambulance from Rescue 1122 Tal reached BHU Mandori. Ayaz, who was reportedly in critical condition, was referred to Peshawar, while the remaining injured were shifted to Treasury Hospital for further treatment.

Malik Muhammad Karim said the area, which is home to thousands of families, lacks basic emergency and healthcare facilities, while poor road conditions further complicate the transportation of patients.

Residents have demanded the immediate establishment of Rescue 1122 services and a night shift at the local hospital to ensure timely medical assistance during emergencies.
