PESHAWAR: A nation that destroys its soil destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people – Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The word “environment” is derived from the French word “environ” which means “surrounding”. An environment is all that is around us, which incorporates both living and non-living things like soil, water, creatures, and plants, which adjust to their environmental factors. It is nature’s blessings that aides in supporting life on earth.
Environment plays a significant part in healthy living and the presence of life on planet earth. Unfortunately, this environment has gone under genuine danger. This danger is on the whole because of human activities. These human activities have surely caused genuine harm to the environment. Generally, this harms the endurance of living things on earth. Consequently, it is significant for each person to save and our surroundings.
There are several ways that we can help protect our environment. Some of these are:
Whether you are at home, workplace, local market, or while running or jogging, wherever you find plastic or styrofoam on your way, pick it up and throw it in a nearby garbage cane.
Indoor plants are a very effective way in cleaning the inside air contamination of our homes. Trees provide food and oxygen. They help save energy, clean the air, and help battle climate change. By spending a little to green up our homes, we can improve our health too.
Clothes are better than paper usage. Use clothes instead of paper to wipe your hands or the things you normally wipe with paper towels.
Use reusable bags for shopping, clothing or books because it takes a while for plastic bags to decompose. These bags are useful for the things other than shopping as well. There are almost five billion plastic bags that we use around the world annually according to United Nations.
Water is wasted more frequently than we can see. Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth. Do not turn on the shower until you are not ready to take a bath. Limit the usage of water while washing dishes. Changing old propensities will be useful for both the environment and your expenses.
Use energy-efficient or long-lasting light bulbs, for example, LED bulbs instead of regular bulbs which not only save energy but money too. Make sure to turn off lights, the TV, and other appliances when you are not using them, and also lower your air conditioning or heat when it is not necessary. According to recent research, there are almost 200,000 ballons of greenhouse gases emitted annually from each house.
Don’t throw old stuff in the garbage. Consider selling it or giving it to someone else who can utilize it. Donate your clothes and other goods that are in acceptable condition to a charity or non-profit organization.
Reusing is fun and good for the environment. Rather than discarding things, give them another reason by making jewelry, household accessories, or restyled clothing.
Most of the damage to our environment arises from the consumption we do. Unfortunately, humans have not been very good stewards of the earth over the years. To protect the environment and protect the planet for our children and future generations, we all need to take proactive steps towards cleaner living habits, and educate ourselves and others regarding the importance of a clean environment.
