BANNU, August 5: Authorities of the FATA region have decided to organise a sports festival for the youngsters displaced from North Waziristan Agency and lodged in Bannu nowadays.

The festival will start on 12 August as per the directive of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Mr Sardar Mehtab Abbasi. The FATA Sports Director, Mr Faisal Jamil, told journalists at the Peshawar Press Club that the sports gala would continue for two weeks.

The festival will include sports like cricket, volleyball, basketball, football, hockey, martial arts, gymnastics, athletics competitions and some traditional games like Kabaddi. The official added that only registered internally displaced persons (IDPs) would be able to participate in the competitions.

“We will provide all sports facilities and travelling allowance to them. Moreover, the winners of the competitions will also get cash awards. We cannot solve all of their problems, but we can just try to provide them a positive atmosphere so that they feel happy,” he said.
