An important development has emerged in the case of an acid attack on women riding in a rickshaw on Peshawar’s Abdara Road. The police have arrested the main suspect, Tariq, who was named in the FIR.
According to CCPO Qasim Ali Khan, Tariq was apprehended in the Karkhano Market area, and the motorcycle used in the crime was also recovered from him.
The CCPO revealed that Tariq is an associate of the victim's ex-husband. The search is still ongoing for another accomplice involved in the attack.
How did the incident happen?
According to the University Town Police, the acid attack occurred on Peshawar’s Abdara Road. Four individuals, including a woman, suffered burns and were subsequently treated and sent home.
The police reported that the woman was riding a rickshaw near a private hostel when two men on a motorcycle approached and threw acid on her before fleeing. The victim accused her ex-husband, stating, "I know this was orchestrated by my husband and his driver, as he has repeatedly threatened to kill me."

Notably, this is the second acid attack on women in Peshawar this month. In a previous incident, a young man injured a girl by throwing acid at her on the Peshawar Ring Road. The police had arrested the accused following that attack.
These incidents have raised significant concern among citizens, especially women, who now feel insecure due to the apparent lack of preventive measures against acid attacks.
