PESHAWAR: Kainat Gul, who belongs to a small town, Bakhshali in Mardan, is a national football player from the Wapda team. She had completed BA and now she is pursuing Master’s degree.

Kainat had a passion for sports since she was a child.

“I used to play in the streets with my cousins. And then I started playing for school and college. When I was selected for a regional game that was my first step towards my dream. And then I represented my region at provincial and national levels at different games,” she said while talking to TNN.

Kainat started playing football when she came to know that there wasn’t any representation of KP in football. So she decided to play football. She is the first female from KP who was selected for the Pakistan camp and then for the Wapda team.

Kainat received 75 sports certificates in athletics and football at the regional, provincial, and national levels. She also won 17 medals out of which 14 are gold medals, two silver and one bronze medal.  She always received support from her family.

“I have full support from my family, but the area where I live has no playground for girls where they can get training. Circumstances compelled me to move from my area for training for a short period,” she said.

Muhammad Shah, her coach, who always supported her in her sports career, said, “When I first met her, she was passionate about sports and I saw a spirit in her. Therefore, I decided to support her. She was excellent at athletics as well and I always wanted her to be in athletics but she loved football. So I never forced her to be in athletics and always support her in her.”

Moreover, her Wapda coach Saifullah, who appreciates her struggle and hard work, said Kainat has bright future prospects due to her exceptional talent.

“She is an inspiration for other girls. Many girls at her college and university got inspiration from her and are now playing different games,” he said.

Kainat’s future goal is to have an academy for girls as they don’t have such an academy at KP. She wants to create space for those girls who are passionate about sports but don’t have facilities where they can polish their skills.
