Awami National Party (ANP) Central President Senator Aimal Wali Khan has warned that any attempt to alter the geographical boundaries, constitutional status or administrative identity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would have serious consequences.

Speaking on the issue, Aimal Wali Khan said those dreaming of dividing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were “living in a fool’s paradise,” asserting that the ANP’s position on the province’s identity, historical status and the rights of the Pakhtun people was clear.

He said not even a tehsil, let alone a village council, could be separated from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa without resistance from the ANP.

“The province is not the personal property of any individual, government or institution to be divided according to their wishes,” he said, adding that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been the homeland of the Pakhtun people for thousands of years and represented their history, culture and identity.

Aimal Wali Khan warned that any unconstitutional attempt to change the province’s geographical or administrative identity would be considered an attack on the rights and national existence of the Pakhtun people. He said the ANP would not only oppose such moves but would also launch strong resistance against them.

He maintained that decisions concerning the boundaries or administrative status of any province could not be made on the basis of political ambitions, short-term interests or the wishes of individuals in positions of power.

According to the ANP president, Pakistan is a federation comprising different nations, identities and federating units. Weakening the historical existence and identity of any one nation or federating unit would ultimately weaken the federation itself, he said.

He further warned that any such move could harm Pakistan’s unity and national cohesion, saying those seeking to divide Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could not absolve themselves of responsibility for the consequences such a policy might create.

Aimal Wali Khan said the ANP’s historic position and vision regarding boundaries and administrative units were also clear. He announced that the party’s think tank, central cabinet, Central Working Committee and Central Council would soon discuss the issue in detail.

Following approval from the relevant party forums, he said, the ANP would transform its position into an organised and formal political movement.

The ANP central president reiterated that the party would not compromise on the unity, identity or constitutional status of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He also called on Pakhtun, Sindhi, Seraiki, Kashmiri, Baloch and Gilgiti communities to remain vigilant and strengthen democratic, constitutional and political struggles for the protection of their national identities and historical rights.

“Pakistan can only be strengthened through equal rights, autonomy, constitutional guarantees and mutual respect for all its nationalities—not by erasing the identity of any nation,” he said.
