According to a report issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department, 36,967 classrooms in government schools across the province are awaiting reconstruction or major repairs.

The report states that 19,224 classrooms require reconstruction, while 17,743 classrooms need major repairs.

Of the classrooms awaiting reconstruction, 12,322 are in boys’ schools, while 6,902 are in girls’ schools.

Similarly, among the classrooms requiring major repairs, 12,136 are in boys’ schools, while 5,607 are in girls’ schools.

In the settled districts, 16,934 classrooms require reconstruction, while 14,632 need major repairs.

In Swat, 2,625 classrooms require reconstruction, while another 685 classrooms are in need of major repairs.

According to the report, Mardan requires the reconstruction of 1,381 classrooms, while in Peshawar, 840 classrooms are awaiting reconstruction and 845 require major repairs.

The Education Department was contacted for its comments on the matter; however, the department declined to provide a response.
