MARDAN: Three people of a family, including two children, died when a car fell into a canal in Mardan on Saturday.

Rescue sources said Ali Bahadur, a resident of Kot Daulatzai in Garhi Kapura area in Mardan was coming back home in a car along with his son Muhammad Ali and four grandsons Muhammad Yaman, Ayan, Kainat and Haya when the car went out of driver’s control and fell into a canal in Fazalabad area of Takht Bhai tehsil.

The rescue teams immediately reached the scene and rescued Muhammad Ali, Kainat and Haya, while Yaman’s body was also retrieved. Ali Bahadur sustained serious injuries in the mishap and he was taken to Mardan Medical Complex (MMC) where he succumbed to his injuries.

Ayan went missing after the accident and rescue personnel were trying to find his body. Divers of Rescue 1122 took part in the rescue operation.

Traffic accidents occur routinely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa mostly due to poor condition of roads and untrained drivers.

Two days earlier, one person died and three others sustained injuries when fire broke out in a room of Pakhtunkhwa House (Circuit House) in Mardan.

Rescue 1122 said a rescue team rushed the site of the incident and started extinguished the fire.

A mutilated body was recovered from the scene. The deceased was identified as Ebadullah. Three injured people were identified as Usman, Salman and Junaid. They were shifted to hospital where their condition was stated to be stable. The fire also badly damaged the valuables worth millions of rupees at the circuit house.

On Monday, 10 people sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a passenger coach and an oil tanker on Grand Trunk (GT) Road.

Police said that a coach travelling to Mardan collided with an oil tanker near Taru Jabba in which 10 passengers were injured. The injured persons were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Pabbi where three of them were referred to Peshawar due to their critical condition.

The driver of the oil tanker escaped from the scene after while the police registered the case and started the investigation into the matter.
