TIRAH VALLEY: Haji Sher Muhammad Afridi, President of the Traders Association in Khyber district, and his cousin Abrar Khan were found murdered in the remote region of Tirah Valley. Police sources confirmed that the bodies of both men were recovered from the Bhuttan Sharif area earlier today.

The two were abducted nearly a week ago, on January 30, 2025, by armed men from the Maidan area of Bara tehsil. Despite extensive local efforts, including jirgas and negotiations, attempts to secure their release proved unsuccessful. Police officials stated that, due to the area's remoteness, it may take time to gather full details, but the recovered bodies have been identified as the missing victims.

A local journalist told Tribal News Network that both Afridi and Khan had been held captive by their abductors for a week, but no information emerged regarding the kidnappers' identities or motives. The journalist added that no ransom was demanded, nor were any negotiations reported for their release.

The double murder has cast a pall of grief over Tirah Valley and the surrounding Bara Plain, instilling fear among the residents. The local business community has termed the incident an irreparable loss for the region.

Member of the National Assembly from Khyber, Haji Iqbal Afridi, expressed his condolences in a Facebook post, stating, “The President of the Traders Association, Haji Sher Muhammad Afridi, has been martyred in Tirah Valley. May Allah forgive the departed soul. We stand in solidarity with the grieving family.”

This incident follows another act of violence in Khyber district just a day earlier, where unidentified gunmen on motorcycles shot and killed Khyber police constable Abdul Khaliq. According to police reports, Khaliq was en route for polio duty in the Ghundi area of Jamrud tehsil when he was targeted by the attackers.

Authorities are continuing investigations into both incidents, though no arrests have been made so far.
