Bannu – In a tragic incident at the Bannu Central Jail, mismanagement led to the murder of one inmate by another, who was reportedly mentally ill.
According to sources, the mentally ill prisoner, Sher Zaman, attacked a fellow inmate during a break in the mental health ward. Zaman, unfamiliar with the jail’s environment, approached the other inmate, who then assaulted him. The attacker struck Sher Zaman on the head with a brick, causing severe injuries.
Zaman, a resident of Surani, was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, due to the critical nature of his injuries, he succumbed to them during treatment.

When contacted to confirm the incident, the Bannu Central Jail staff declined to comment.
In a separate incident, Maulana Fida-ur-Rehman, a prominent religious scholar, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Hangu. The attack took place in the Khisari Banda area, where the assailants targeted Maulana Fida-ur-Rehman before fleeing the scene.
Police have confirmed that Maulana Fida-ur-Rehman was the chairman of a private foundation. An investigation has been launched, and a case has been registered as the search for the attackers continues.
