PESHAWAR: Another transgender person was brutally killed in Mansehra on Monday. The victim was identified as Farhan, who was famous as ‘Honey’ was killed inside her home on Shinkyari road, near Kakol academy.
Mansehra Police said that the transgender has received five bullets and died on the spot. Her dead body has been taken to King Abdullah Hospital for post mortem. Police said that case has been registered against unknown killers and further investigation is underway.
Shemale association has given a call for protest demonstration and warned that their protest will continue till the killers are arrested by the police. Pakhtunkhwa Civil Society Coordinator Taimoor Kamal, who has been working for the rights of a transgender person in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has condemned the brutal murder. He said that the victim was first tortured and then shot killed by unknown killers.
In June, unknown armed men shot dead a transgender person in Noor Gul Babar area of Nowshera district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, police said. The deceased transgender person has been identified as Aftab alias Maya Khan. Aftab was handed over to his family by Hashtnaghri Police under a written agreement without his consent. Aftab was earlier handed over to the family by Hashtnaghri Police a month ago and his family members had shaved off his hair. TransAction Pakistan, a group working for the rights of transgender persons in KP, says that 64 transgender persons have been killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 2015. Many more have also been injured in various firing incidents.
Transgender persons also complain of not receiving proper medical care in public sector hospitals. They allege that some of their friends who get injured in attacks die in hospitals as they do not receive proper medical attention.
