PESHAWAR, September 8: Two people have died and six were injured as lightning struck areas in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The police say lightning struck Hazarkhwani and Shero Jangai areas of the provincial capital last night, killing two people and injuring another six. The victims were rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital, where condition of the two was stated to be critical.

600 villages submerged in Punjab floods

Meanwhile, 600 villages in Sialkot and Gujranwala districts of Punjab have been submerged in water following heavy rains and floods in the region.

According to a statement from the Punjab government, the civil administration, with collaboration of the Pakistan Army, was evacuating affected people from the food-hit areas to safer places and that foods items were also being provided to them.

The provincial disaster management authority says death toll from floods in Punjab, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan has exceeded 180 while hundreds of people have been injured.
