District health office Nowshera district has confirmed first two deaths from dengue fever during the current year on Wednesday.

The officials said that the deaths were reported from Ziarat Kaka Sahib and Masamkhel area of Akora Khattak. The dead were identified as Shafiq, 57 from Ziarat Kaka Sahib and Anisa Akbar, a seminary student from Akora Khattak.

On the other hand, several areas of the districts including Akora Khattak, Misri Banda, Nowshera Cantt, Badarshi, Pahari Katikhel and Ziarat Kaka Sahib are facing dengue outbreak and hospitals are flooded with the patients.

District Health Officer Nowshera Dr Muhammad Shuaib Khan confirmed that screening of 5500 patients has resulted into 390 dengue positive cases in the district while several others were being treated at homes.

Health department figures showed that 116 dengue positive cases have been reported from Akora Khattak, 17 in Misri Banda, 162 in Badarshi, 12 in Nowshera Cantt, 14 in Pahari Katikhel and 19 in Zirat Kaka Sahib.

Mir Raza Ozgen, deputy commissioner Nowshera said also visited the dengue isolation ward at district headquarters hospital and reviewed the facilities provided to the patients.
The official was also briefed about the dengue outbreak situation in the district and steps taken to address it.

On the other hand, locals have demanded the authorities to take emergency steps to control dengue outbreak and ensure standard dengue tests in hospital, dewatering of flood waters and anti-mosquito spray.
