PESHAWAR, July 8: Two people have died of Congo fever at the Hayatabad Medical Complex in the provincial capital Peshawar.

Senior Doctor of the hospital, Mr Waliur Rehman, said one of the deceased was a peon of the hospital while the other was the native of Afghanistan.

A few days ago, an Afghan national had died of Congo fever. Dr Waliur Rehman added that up to six cases of the disease had been reported since April till now while five of them were Afghan nationals and one Pakistani.

He said Congo virus had been transferred from animals to humans and could further be transmitted to other human beings.

“There is no proper treatment and medication for this disease but we just provide some medicines and isolate the patients from other people.”
