PESHAWAR, July 17: Two militants and one policeman were killed in a clash at Raiwind, the ancestral village of Prime Minister Mr Nawaz Sharif, in Lahore district of Punjab province.

The police say that on a tip-off, they raided a house situated about 2.5 kilometers from the prime minister’s home. They say the militants attacked the policemen with a hand grenade, killing one policeman and injuring three others.

The exchange of fire continued for about 10 hours and later the police attacked the house with hand grenades and rockets, killing two militants while one militant was arrested in injured condition.

Pakistani media quoted security officials as saying that the militants were stocking arms inside the house and that they were planning to attack the prime minister’s residence.
