PESHAWAR, July 10: Unidentified people have shot dead two policemen and injured another on Pandu Road in the provincial capital Peshawar, the police say.

A police van was on routine patrol in Chamkani area when it was fired at last night. The deceased and the injured were rushed to hospital. The police say they also killed one of the attackers in retaliatory fire.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, Mr Pervez Khattak, has announced 3 million rupees each for the families of the deceased policemen.

Peace committee member killed in Swat: In separate incident, armed men killed a member of peace committee in Swat district. The police say Mr Khan Sahib was on his way home before Iftar time on 9 July when the gunmen ambushed him in Shakar Dara area of Matta tehsil. The police launched search operation in the area after the incident.
