The United Nations has issued a serious warning regarding the health dangers posed by smog to children under five and pregnant women across Pakistan.
The announcement comes as major cities, including Lahore, Karachi, and Multan, continue to be engulfed in hazardous smog levels, with particulate matter recorded at dangerously high concentrations.
With Pakistan's Air Quality Index ranking worsening, the UN has highlighted the severe impact of pollution on vulnerable populations, particularly young children and expecting mothers.
UNICEF has also raised concerns, emphasizing the urgent need for school closures in Punjab due to the alarming air quality. However, as most schools lack online learning infrastructure, educational disruptions affect around 60 million children, significantly impacting their academic progress amidst the ongoing smog crisis.
