In Kardok, an area of Salarzai tehsil in Bajaur District, a young child was killed and eight others injured after a suspected mortar shell reportedly exploded.

According to rescue sources, a total of nine people were affected in the blast, including children and women.

Initial reports suggest that some children found a suspicious mortar shell and brought it home while playing. 

The shell suddenly exploded with a loud blast, injuring those present inside the house.

The deceased child has been identified as Ans, son of Hazrat. The injured include Wajid son of Inayat, Yaman son of Jahan, Jawad son of Jahan, Shahid son of Abdul Wahid, a young girl daughter of Fazal Wahid, Z (wife of Hazrat), F (wife of Jahan), and another woman (wife of Abdul Wahid).

All the injured were immediately shifted to the Headquarters Hospital in Khar, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Following the incident, the local administration and security agencies cordoned off the area and began collecting evidence.

 While the incident appears to be accidental, further investigations are underway.

It is worth noting that similar tragic incidents have occurred in tribal districts in the past due to unexploded ordnance and explosive materials.

The district administration has urged the public not to touch any suspicious or unknown objects and to immediately inform the relevant authorities to prevent further loss of precious lives.
