PESHAWAR, August 29: Islamia College University Vice-Chancellor Dr Ajmal Khan, who had been kidnapped four years ago, has been recovered from North Waziristan tribal region.
Security officials say Dr Ajmal Khan was recovered during operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan and that he has been sent home last night.
Professor Ajmal Khan was kidnapped on 7 September, 2010 along with his driver while he was going to university from his home. His driver was released last year.
The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the kidnapping and demanded the government release four Taliban prisoners in exchange for release of Dr Khan.
During four years, the government got five video messages released by the Taliban and in most of his messages Dr Khan said his health was deteriorating day by day and requested authorities to do something for his recovery.
In the past, Dr Khan has also served as vice-chancellor of the Gomal University in Dera Ismail Khan district and registrar and provost of the University of Peshawar.
