CHITRAL, May 7: Victims of the last year’s flood in Chitral district have asked the government to compensate the affected families.

About 50 families lost their houses, properties, cattle, gardens and agricultural fields when the devastating flood hit Reshun area on August 1.

Local residents told TNN correspondent that the flood destroyed many homes and agricultural lands but that the government did not provide them financial assistance.

They asked the government to compensate them for their losses and to construct safety walls on the riverbanks to prevent such incidents in future.

A resident told TNN, “The flood washed away our home and now we don’t have a home to live in, nor do we have any other property. We just need compensation.”

“Those who lost their houses have migrated to other areas. We request the media to highlight our issues so that the government authorities solve our problems,” another resident said.
