The West Indies cricket team has failed to qualify directly for the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup and will have to go through the qualifying stage for the second consecutive time.

The 2027 ICC ODI World Cup will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia from October 4 to November 21, 2027. A total of 14 teams will participate in the tournament, with 54 matches to be played.

South Africa and Zimbabwe have already qualified directly for the World Cup as the host nations, while eight other teams have secured direct qualification based on the ICC ODI rankings.

Afghanistan secured a direct place in the World Cup by defeating Ireland, which closed the door on West Indies’ chances of direct qualification.

The West Indies also failed to qualify directly for the 2023 World Cup, and now they will have to go through the qualifying stage for the 2027 World Cup as well.

A total of 10 teams will qualify directly for the 2027 World Cup, while the remaining four teams will be decided through the ICC World Cup Qualifier event.

The four teams that succeed in the qualifying stage will earn a place in the 2027 World Cup, meaning the West Indies will have to go through the qualifiers for the second consecutive time to secure their place in the global tournament.
